Dear Juno, WTF! You were what 15-16 in high school and you didn't understand that sex with no protection equals crying infant? Should I blame you or your parents? Actually I guess I can't completely bag on you or your parents because the sex education in some school districts is crap and sometimes can't even really be discussed with students. However, your parents were always there and seemed to be pretty open so I think you should've been at least mature enough to talk about sex with your dad or step-mom before just doing the deed. Whether it is because you just "wanted to" or because you really loved Paulie, you should've used protection or at least been on some form of birth control to avoid pregnancy. You won't always have someone to be smart for you, so be smart for yourself. Birth control is free and easy to obtain, plus if you already have health insurance the long lasting and reversible birth controls are more easily accessible and helpful because of the reminder for check ups and you can always make your own appointments if you need to.
Now I do want to say that I think you're one very brave 16 year old for going through with having a child. It's pretty noble of you to not go through with an abortion either. I'm not hating on abortion and I don't think abortion is evil, but I don't look up to it as the best option to a unplanned pregnancy. However women have the right to make that choice, so no matter what other's opinions do not matter when it comes to your own body. I think you did make a smart choice by taking the objective to find parents while the baby was still in the womb and by giving the baby to Vanessa who obviously was fit to be a mother. You have the rest of your life to decide what you want to do with it, so here's some advice for you and any teen or woman that engages in sex and ends up having an unplanned pregnancy. Next time plan accordingly and get on birth control.
